L-Arginine, or 2-amino-5-guanidinepentanoic acid, stimulates the pituitary gland in the body, increasing the secretion of somatotropic hormone, blocking the action of somatostatin. Arginine is a precursor of endogenous nitric oxide, which is synthesized by vascular endothelial cells.
